Based in Bordeaux (France), WOO is an artist at the intersection of Free Figuration and
calligraphy. He advocates for instinctive art, playing with symbols that don't always carry symbolic meaning, blending the brutality of tagging with the softness of calligraphy. Inspired since childhood by the bold lines of Keith Haring and the colourful, sculptural forms of Niki de Saint Phalle, naive shapes, minimalist graphic representations, icons... He is interested in any synthesis in a single stroke. Everything in daily life becomes a pretext for expressing an obsession that manifests in curved or angular icons.
His deep attachment to the elegance of Oriental alphabets is expressed in his works
through unique calligraphic elements. The repetition of gestures, the movement of the
wrist, and fluidity sometimes constitute the symbolism itself, even when they don't tell a
story or depict a place.
From this symbiosis between writing and drawing, emerge works in which everyone can interpret a story, enriched with glyphs of pre-Columbian, primitive, or Oriental styles, mixed with animal or plant representations, Pop Culture references, or polytheistic symbols. WOO's work invites reading and free interpretation, where everyone can find themselves at the heart of a story.
